The Book Lovers Tag

During my hiatus, I was tagged by Steph from Scale it Simple to do The Book Lovers Tag. Thanks a lot Steph for thinking of me and sorry for the delay!

Although the tag’s name is similar to another one I did late last year, this one is different because it concerns our reading habits instead of specific books we have read. I enjoyed answering the questions and reading Steph’s and other bloggers’ replies. 🙂

Here are my answers!

Do you have a specific place for reading?

Not exactly. I read mostly at home, on the bus, or on campus during my free hours. Naturally, I prefer to read in the comfort of my home, either on the sofa or the bed.

Bookmarks or random pieces of paper?

Bookmarks! I have a lot of them, so it’s no problem when I’m reading multiple books or study texts. My most particular marker is a metal bookmark with a dachshund dog pendant gifted to me by Matt. 🙂

Can you just stop anywhere or must it be at the end of the chapter?

I prefer to read chapter by chapter. Sometimes I even check the length of a section before starting it, so that if I see that I don’t have enough time to read it all, I stop there! But if something comes up or if the bus arrives at the destination before I finish the chapter, then I’m forced to stop.

Do you eat or drink while reading?

Drink, yes – water, ice tea, coffee, whatever! However, I try not to eat while reading from a physical book, only if I’m reading on the Kindle or a magazine.

Music or TV while reading?

No, I want silence while reading! In fact, I stopped listening to music regularly because it distracts me even while I’m reading a simple online article. Then, if Matt is watching TV or Youtube (which he does almost all the time), I just have to make an extra effort to concentrate. 😛

One book at a time or several?

I prefer one book at a time, especially when it comes to fiction. During my academic year, though, I can’t help but read 3-4 books at a time, both fiction and non-fiction.

Do you prefer to read at home or elsewhere?

As I said, I prefer to read at home, but I don’t mind elsewhere. The second top place for reading is on the bus, which is ironic because I don’t use earphones to block the noise out! But, you know, sometimes it’s annoying just to watch out from the window (and during the academic year I’m in a rush to read as much as I can).

Read out loudly or silently?

Silently, when I’m reading on my own. Since last year, I started to read out loud some books to Matt, and I enjoy it. My weak vocal cords enjoy it less though, haha. 😛

Do you read ahead or skip pages?

If I’m reading a fiction book for pleasure, I try to read everything. If I’m reading fiction (especially when it’s some tedious classic) or non-fiction texts for my studies, the chances are that I’m going to skim through certain paragraphs.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

Breaking the spine? Are you crazy?! It’s kind of obvious that I do my best to keep it like new! Then sometimes spines become creased with use, that can’t be helped.

Do you write in your books?

Not in my fiction books. Whenever I find lines which I want to memorise, I take note of them and write them down on my Tumblr or save the quotes on Goodreads. As for my school books, nowadays I just underline phrases or draw small vertical lines on the side of paragraphs with a pencil, then I add sticky notes if I want to write some notes.

I’m not tagging anyone in particular. As you can see, these are simple questions, and you don’t need to be a book blogger to do such a post, you just need to love reading! Feel free to do it and let me know if you do!

What are your reading habits? Have you done this book tag? Let me know by leaving a comment on this post or by dropping me a mail!
