Sweden, My Love: my first snow

Here I am writing about my impressions on my first trip to Sweden with my boyfriend Matt, which occurred between end of February and beginning of March 2015. We stayed in the county of Skåne (Scania): Malmö, Skurup and the surroundings; while also visiting Copenhagen in Denmark.

Day 2

Snow!

The weather on Sunday morning was even worse than the days before. As I peeked through the blinds of our room, all I could see was darkness and rain. That meant that the walk in the forest which we were promised the day before by our hosts had to be cancelled.

We went upstairs for breakfast and as we were preparing it, I looked out from the window again. The rain was very light but at the same time the drops looked ‘fat’. I stared harder and asked Matt to confirm my suspicion. Indeed, it was not just a rain shower. There was a hint of snow mingled with the rain! It was just around 9 a.m. in the morning but my day was already made: I was experiencing snow for the first time!

Sweden, My Love: first time in Malmö

Here I am writing about my impressions on my first trip to Sweden with my boyfriend Matt, which occurred between end of February and beginning of March 2015. We stayed in the county of Skåne (Scania): Malmö, Skurup and the surroundings; while also visiting Copenhagen in Denmark.

Day 1

On Saturday we woke up to a grey weather. I wasn’t surprised at all, when considering that we had arrived in a similar weather the day before. And heck, this is the North and it’s February, so I wasn’t expecting anything better. In any case, the forecast wasn’t predicting a terrible weather for the day.

We went upstairs for breakfast. I admit that breakfast is my least favourite meal and I often skip it, but when I’m on the move I easily get hungry. So I indulged in some slices of bread – one with regular butter and ham and the other spread with Kalles kaviar, which I had already tasted back in Malta and loved instantly (unlike many other people who don’t fancy it from the start). I also tried Swedish coffee for the first time. Wow… it’s a very strong coffee. Since I don’t like pouring in milk, I had to put three spoonfuls of sugar to be able to drink it. I also felt like getting a headache from its power, but it still energised me.

The plan for the day was to be driven to Malmö to visit Matt’s grandmother for dinner but before that, our hosts would take us (and specifically me) for a sightseeing drive. First stop, Limhamn.

Sweden, My Love: my first impressions on arrival

scrabbled_rambles_malmo_flagWith a terrible delay, here I am writing about my impressions on my first trip to Sweden with my boyfriend Matt, which occurred between end of February and beginning of March 2015. 27th February, around 7 o’ clock. It was a rainy Friday morning and we (me, Matt and my parents) were all crammed inside my dad’s tiny car. The old Seat Marbella was struggling to go forward, with the weight of four persons and two luggage bags, and with considerable amount of rainwater gushing through the cracks of the bonnet. At one point, we almost grinded to a halt but in the end we made it to the airport in time for check-in.

We were flying to Sweden, my boyfriend’s country of origin, to visit his family. But first we had to stop elsewhere: Munich for the connecting flight and Copenhagen, our flight’s final destination.
